Bamberg, an hour's drive away (61 kilometers away), is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by extensive vineyards, Würzburg (109 kilometers away) is the ideal place to taste Franconian wines. On a walk through the beautiful city with its magnificent buildings, you can see picturesque attractions such as the Marienberg Fortress, the Würzburg Residence, and the Old Main Bridge.
Also easily accessible by car from Nuremberg are Stuttgart (209 kilometers away) and Munich (169 kilometers away). 
Twenty kilometers north of Nuremberg lies the baroque university town of Erlangen. The imposing Erlangen Castle was built in 1704 and has housed the Friedrich-Alexander University since 1825. Stroll around the majestic buildings, which include the Margravial Theater and the University Library, before heading to the castle garden. The garden was inspired by both French and English garden styles and surrounds the highly impressive Huguenot Fountain and the Orangerie from 1706.
